iPortalMais HistoryThe beginningiPortalMais was born in May of 2000. It was an intense activity period for Linux in Oporto. Lots of events promoting Linux took place inside the Engineering Faculty of Oporto University, but that year Linux jumped to the city streets with the sponsorship of the faculty and the city hall. The company starts with the thrust of this events, aiming different areas based on Linux, including the installation and configuration of Linux Servers.With the IT crisis in 2001, this area becomes the focus of iPortalMais. With less money to spend, Linux solutions based on free software and services are more atractive to customers and service integrators. Research & Development lift offA new attitudeIn the middle of 2001, the company starts its first R&D efforts with the creation of a innovative approach to a Document Management solution. Document Management would be a network service based in a set of protocols widely used on Intranets. The Document Manager (iPortalDoc) was based in Linux.The project takes a very successful path. In the end of 2002 there were already several partnerships to sell iPortalDoc. The problems arose when we had to teach our partners to install Linux to run the document management. The training costs were too high. iPortalMais decided then to create a tool that would automatically install the Linux Intranet server that supported iPortalDoc. Peoples Conseil, our main partner for Document Management, tells us that this tool could also be commercialized - in a short period they sell 7 items. This R&D department adds another product to iPortalMais portfolio. The product was named IPBox. But a little it was renamed to IPBrick because IPBox was already taken in the ".com" hierarchy. 2005 starts iPortalMais InternationalizationThe big challenge is now beginningiPortalMais internationalization process goes stronger with Kaspersky Lab relation. IPBrick integrates Kaspersky technology giving a new visibility among their distributors to the Linux servers with automatic installation. The first iPortalMais partners abroad are Kaspersky distributors. Kasperky also led us to participate in our first fair - iPortalMais was an huge success in COMTEC 2004, held at Lisbon. The lack of events in Lisbon took us to SIMO 2005, held in Madrid. In January 2006 we participated in Solutions Linux, held in Paris. In March 2006 we reached the top with the participation in Cebit. |
